November 12 update: Unfortunately there has been some sad news, Harley suddenly passed away two days ago. Our hearts go out to Jeanette at O’Green Acres who needless to say is shocked and saddened by Harley’s untimely passing. At this point we have no plan in place for Polka Dots breeding and are also not quite certain if Dot was successfully bred.

As yet another year comes to an end on our small farm, we can’t help but be once again amazed at the many experiences we had, good and bad. Taking account of all the things we have accomplished, as well as some we did not. Plans have come to materialize, deteriorate and completely change all in one short year. It never fails to amaze us. We have certainly had a big change in plans as far as goat bucks are concerned. When the year started, we had NO plans to add even one buck to our herd and we now have four !! How did that happen ??? We are certainly very excited about the changes this will bring for the new year. We are now able to keep a closed herd and will do so as of right now. We have very high hopes for our sires-to-be, one of those hopes being to have some moon spotted kids from Dot and Polkadot come 2014. Our plan to breed four does this season had to change due to the fact that Casey and Caylee our youngsters did not grow as big yet as we had expected. So we are still only expecting two of our Nubian goats to kid comes Spring, but at the same time we expect our very first Nigerian Dwarf babies in the new year as well. We have our great website up and running, to share all of the fun and excitement of owning a hobby farm with our friends and family and anybody who just loves animals. We have made new friends who share our enthusiasm for everything that goats “produce”. We are also for the first time members of the ADGA and the NDGA. The hard cheese making as well as the soap making has not taken off quite yet and we are still working on our gardening skills. Seems like we learned how to raise goats and other livestock much faster than how to grow vegetables. That part is still a hit and miss for us, but we are not giving up and are already looking over the new seed saver catalog. Overall we are very happy with the progress we have made and we continue to strive and improve where it is needed. The new year already promises to be very exciting. So be sure to check on all the news and happenings on our website and if you like what you see, please sign our guestbook. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, we are always happy to help any way we can. With this we wish everybody a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a very HAPPY and HEALTHY NEW YEAR We will see you in 2013 Slade and Angelika |
