Sunny

Sunny and 10 littermates came into the world because a careless backyard breeder decided to breed her two adult Dogue De Bordeaux's despite the fact that they both had hip dysplasia. The pups seemed fine at first and the breeder sold them all for a lot of money. But by the time the puppies turned 3 months old, they all started to have problems walking. It turned out that all 11 had juvenile hip dysplasia.

All of the new owners returned the puppies to the breeder and demanded their money back.

Out of money and stuck with 11 pups that needed expensive and extensive medical care she just threw them into a barn and pretty much left them there to fend for themselves.

All the puppies had moderate to severe hip problems and in addition to it ended up with severe mange and were malnourished due to neglect.

Thanks to a huge rescue effort all the puppies found homes and were able to get the medical care they needed with the help of several veterinarians offering their help. All but one, the runt of the litter who was practically hairless and so depressed that she did not even know how to wag her tail anymore.

She was a picture of pure misery. At the time I worked for one of the vets who had helped with the medical care for the puppies and I ended up taking that little bundle of misery home with me.

There were quite a few people who said that she should probably be euthanized she was in such bad shape and even I was wondering if they were right.

But we decided to give her a chance.

It did not take too long to see what a wonderful little dog she was. Once we got the mange and the malnourishment under control her spirit just started to soar.

As soon as she was strong enough she had surgery on her hips at 6 months old.

After that, she just blossomed into this unbelievably sweet, adorable and “sunny” little girl.

Everybody who met her could not help but be taken in by her sunny disposition. She loved to be the center of attention.

We were blessed to be able to share 10 happy, healthy, carefree years with her.

Her spirit and zest for life has truly amazed us and we will always remember our sweet Sunny Baby.
